A place for everyone
If there’s one club on campus that feels like stepping into a warm, welcoming conversation, it’s the QUT Environmental Science Club. The club has built its identity around inclusivity, and becoming a place where anyone with an interest in the environment, community, or simply meeting good people can feel instantly at home.
At its heart, the QUT Environmental Science Club is about belonging; a community where you can show up as you are, learn something new, and find people who care about the same things you do. It’s a club that proves environmental passion doesn’t have to be exclusive or intimidating. It can be social, supportive, adventurous, and genuinely fun.
A full social calendar
Club president Tee Bridges puts it simply: 'I’m invested in cultivating a culture where anyone and everyone who wants to be involved can be.'
That philosophy shapes everything the club does, from casual catch‑ups to big adventure days.
The Environmental Science Club’s social calendar is intentionally designed to bring people together in ways that feel natural and fun, while engaging with Environmental Science. This club has a full calendar of fun get-togethers including trivia nights, day hikes, coffee catchups and camping trips.
Previous club president, Huon Morton, has fond memories of the club’s very first camping trip.
‘Facilitated by the Queensland Trust for Nature, we had the privilege of learning about some of the ecotourism and conservation projects landowners were committing to in Carneys Creek, Queensland,’ said Huon.
‘All the members that took part in that camping trip still regularly meet outside of university to this day.’
A club for industry connections
Beyond social connection, the Environmental Science Club is also a hub for students exploring careers in sustainability, ecology, policy, and other environmental fields. Tee makes it a priority to share networking opportunities and industry events with members, and the club regularly hosts its own sessions featuring professionals from across the environmental landscape.
As Tee explains, ‘There is so much more to environmental science than consulting, and we want students to see that.’
Whether it’s speed‑networking with ecologists and policy makers, chatting with HDR students about research pathways, or hearing from young professionals working with renewable technologies, the club creates spaces where students can imagine futures they may not have known existed.
