The Westpac Scholars Trust has announced the 2023 recipients of the Young Technologists Scholarship, and we're thrilled to share that seven of these recipients are from QUT!

The QUT recipients of the Young Technologists Scholarship are outstanding individuals who are passionate about using technology to make a positive impact. Bess wants to promote female participation in IT, Charlie hopes to use AI to solve global problems, Patrick is interested in technology and finance, Imogen wants to improve rural healthcare, Joshua loves programming, and Jocelyn is passionate about cryptography and inspiring young Australians to pursue IT.

Westpac Scholars Trust CEO, Amy Lyden, expressed her admiration for the new cohort of Young Technologists Scholars.

"I couldn't be more impressed with the calibre of scholars we've awarded this year. Many individuals are already delivering huge impact in our community through their studies, research, and work in the social enterprise sector. I can't wait to see this group continue to flourish."

Each year, the Westpac Scholars Trust awards 100 new scholarships to everyday Australians, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, ties with Asia, and social change. The scholarship program has awarded individuals from a range of demographic backgrounds and geographic locations, and this year's cohort is made up of 71 undergraduate students, 17 postgraduate students, 10 social entrepreneurs, and two early-career researchers. This year, 15% of recipients are the first in family to complete a university degree, 51% identify as women, and three per cent identify as First Nations people.

By empowering these scholars through education, leadership, and connections, the Westpac Scholars Trust and QUT believe they will shape a better Australia now and in the future.
