Meet Matt, a former electrical tradesman, QUT Computer Science graduate, HUB24 Technology Scholarship recipient, and Software Developer.

Matt didn't go to uni straight after high school. He worked as an electrician for many years before deciding he was ready to explore further studies. He moved to Brisbane from regional Queensland to start his higher education journey at QUT.

Matt's passion for problem-solving and software development inspired him to pursue a Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) degree at QUT. He loved the variety of units offered at QUT and its practical focus. The most challenging part of his studies was time management, but he managed to keep his workload under control by attending enjoyable classes every week.

During his second year of uni, Matt's hard work and dedication paid off, and he was awarded the HUB24 Technology Scholarship. The scholarship provided him with hands-on experience in the industry, resulting in a graduate position at HUB24.

"During my internship, I worked with many fantastic people, was on the winning team of our in-house Hackathon, and was awarded a graduate position.

Now an IT Graduate working on the Software Development Team at HUB24, Matt enjoys working with new technologies and building web applications for the finance industry. His IT studies at QUT set him up nicely for his current role, particularly in the Software Development unit, which covers all aspects of developing software.

"QUT provided me with a strong foundation in software development, and practical experiences from my degree definitely prepared me for my current role," Matt said.

Matt's advice for those thinking about going to uni next year is not to stress too much about whether the degree is right for you, as it's easy to change. He started with a Bachelor of IT, transferred to a double Bachelor of IT/Maths, and finally graduated with just a Bachelor of IT.

"A big part of studying is learning what your interests are, and sometimes they may change."
