Coffee. Code. Colour palettes. Just another day for QUT alumna and front-end developer, Kimberly Valenny at Deloitte Digital.

Kimberley’s double degree in information technology and creative industries helped her bridge the gap between design and development, enabling her to blend design flair with tech expertise to craft sleek digital solutions for clients big and small. Her advice to future developers? Get involved in clubs like Women in Tech at QUT and the ACS (Australian Computer Society) to build your network, gain real-world experience, and stay inspired by others in the industry. Surrounding yourself with a supportive community can open doors, sharpen your skills, and give you the confidence to tackle both creative and technical challenges head-on.

Will AI replace front-end developer jobs?

AI might be shaking things up, but it’s not replacing front-end developers anytime soon. Here's why: Humans don’t just use technology; they experience it. Front-end developers are the architects of that experience, blending design with code to create intuitive, beautiful and functional digital spaces.

While AI can assist, it can’t replicate human creativity, empathy, or an understanding of how people interact with the web. If you're considering a Bachelor of IT, know that the tech industry needs developers who can build, refine, and humanise the digital world.

Why study IT at QUT?
