Bachelor of Public Health

Our graduates are strategic thinkers who can apply their knowledge to develop innovative solutions that create improved health and quality of life for everyone.

Graduates from our communication and public health double degree are sought after by health departments, primary health networks and other health-related organisations.

With your public health and communication knowledge, you can implement strategies that promote healthy lifestyle choices, prevent the spread of disease and improve education. Work as a health communication specialist, print and online editor, or in health products promotion and marketing.

Bachelor of Communication (Media and Communication Industries)

Digital communication platforms, streaming media, and online content consumption are reconfiguring how we communicate and access information. Governments, corporations, and entertainment industries, like TV, games, and social media, must fundamentally rethink how to capture attention in an increasingly fragmented landscape.

This major prepares you to lead industries, organisations, and teams through the complexities of digital disruption and social change. You will learn how to navigate the economic, cultural, technological, and regulatory aspects of digital media, develop specialised skills in social media management and data analytics, and master new strategies for audience engagement.

After entering the Bachelor of Communication/Bachelor of Public Health, you'll start by studying a range of fundamental skills that blend cutting-edge technologies with proven communication techniques you can take into any industry. Later in your double degree, you'll be able to choose the major that best suits your dream career.

Work Integrated Learning

During this course you will be required to complete 185 hours of professional work placement for the Bachelor of Public Heatlh component.

Details and units

In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Communication and 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Public Health, and 24 credit points of QUT You. You will undertake both degree components concurrently.

Communication component:

  • Six core units - 72 credit points
  • A Communication major - 96 credit points
  • One Communication Unit Option - 12 credit points

Public Health component:
You will complete 168 credit points of core Public Health units including 12 credit points of professional practice and 12 credit points of public health electives studies. 

QUT You: 24 credit points

QUT You units are apportioned as follows for advanced standing purposes: 12 credit points to Bachelor of Communication; 12 credit points to Bachelor of Public Health.
