Bachelor of Data Science
Across the world, we are collecting unprecedented amounts of data. We need skilled data scientists to understand and interpret the data, and communicate meaningful insights to inform business-critical decisions.
Throughout the degree, you will combine mathematics, statistics, and computer science to analyse and extract knowledge from large amounts of data. The course covers the theory and the practical tools for data acquisition, storage, management, processing, analysis and visualisation.
This data science degree is one-of-a-kind in Queensland and as a graduate, you will have the skills required to effectively communicate your data-driven insights to broader audiences, expert and non-expert alike. You will be experienced at interacting effectively within and across teams, working independently, and appraising your own continuing professional development.

There is more ability to create content tailor-made for certain demographics, facilitate ever-higher engagement with consumers, and improve measurement techniques. Brands need someone who understands how to optimise impactful messages for digital environments.
This major combines creativity, strategic thinking, and problem solving to teach you how to leverage consumer insights, design effective campaigns, and measure results. There is a particular emphasis through the School of Communication on fundamental communication skills, social media management, and digital analytics.

In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Communication, 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Data Science, and 24 credit points of QUT You. You will undertake both degree components concurrently.
Communication component:
- Six core units - 72 credit points
- A Communication major - 96 credit points
- One Communication Unit Option - 12 credit points
Data Science component: You must complete 180 credit points of Data Science core units.
QUT You: 24 credit points
