Robots, reef-builders and cars of the future – QUT at the World Science Festival: QUT will help bring science to the people this week – and provide 10 robots ready to play with the public – when the World Science Festival Brisbane takes over the city.

- Associate Professor Michael Milford chatted about maths in movies and the World Science Festival Brisbane on ABC Brisbane.
- Professor Robert Schweitzer’s study exploring reactions to sex featured in the New York Post, Stuff.co.nz , Metro.co.uk, The Mail on Sunday and the Daily Telegraph. He was also interviewed for Radio National’s Life Matters program.
- Professor Judy Drennan told 7 News Flashback our lives had to be more planned and organised before mobile phones were the norm.
- A bush stone curlew hypnotised by its own reflection at QUT Kelvin Grove made The Guardian, Gizmodo and Seven’s Sunrise and was dubbed an “internet sensation” by The Daily Mail. Creative Industries staffer and wildlife volunteer Caitlin Raynor did interviews with the BBC and ABC, PhD candidate Ben Carey’s video made The Australian and Yahoo News, and a Facebook page started by journalism student Mark Zita tracked the whole story.
- Yahoo 7 and News.com.au reported SEEK chief executive Andrew Bassat was the guest speaker at QUT’s Business Leaders’ Forum. The Courier-Mail also ran a feature on his prediction of a jobless future and his BLF visit was mentioned in City Beat.
- The Australian Financial Review reported QUT’s Professor John Humphrey was among the nation’s law deans who have petitioned the Federal Government to stop funding cuts to community legal centres.
- Dr Robyn Mayes told The Sunday Mail retirees should read the fine print before taking up new part-time careers with services like Uber.
- And Professor Laurie Buys talked to The Sunday Mail about retirees staying connected to the community.
- In a Daily Telegraph article on social media, Professor Axel Bruns suggested young people ask themselves if they were happy for a post to be in cyber space “forever” before making it live.
- Professor Lyn Griffiths and Professor Matt Brown were interviewed for ABC Brisbane Afternoons about arthritis research. Professor Ross Crawford talked to the same show about robotics in medicine.
- Get Farming covered Professor Bronwyn Harch’s $210M Food Agility CRC.
- Professor Gerard Ledwich was on ABC Radio Gold Coast talking about power cuts, prices and opportunities to overhaul the electricity system.
- Dr Jeffery Sommerfeld’s Conversation article about South Australia’s new energy policy was republished by the Daily Bulletin.
- QUT Health Clinics’ Rebecca Cox gave Families Magazine an insight into looking after children’s eyes.
- The Courier-Mail’s Phil Brown included a new QUT Art Museum exhibition, Less than: Art and reductionism, in his top five arts events for this week.
- QUT Creative Enterprise Australia’s Anna Rooke (pictured) was interviewed on Sky News about a Universities Australia report and by 7 News about fast fashion putting pressure on local designers.
- The Courier-Mail, StartupSmart and Startup Daily talked up the winners of QUT CEA’s startup weekend. Anna Rooke also spoke on Sky Business News about the event. 
- Dr Monique Mann’s explainer on email privacy ran in the Brisbane Times, Sydney Morning Herald and Canberra Times along with an opinion piece published in 2016 on keeping your emails private.
- Professor Marilyn Campbell’s appearance in ABC documentary series Bullied was mentioned in MamaMia, ABC Online, Radio Australia and The Educator, and she was interviewed by ABC Sydney Drive (in at 2hrs) and ABC Adelaide.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer spoke 7 News about Aldi’s new Queensland stores and renovations at smaller shopping centres. He was also interviewed for Radio National Drive about loyalty cards.
- Australian Cinematographer Magazine featured Creative Industries graduate Jessie Hughes who shot a film in Guatemala as part of the Oculus/Facebook ‘VR for Good’ program shown at the Sundance Film Festival.
- Business school lecturer Nicholas Pontes wrote a piece for The Conversation on retail sales, which was re-printed in Smart Company and prompted an interview with ABC Radio Sydney Mornings.
- The Courier Mail and other News Corp publications reported that QUT music lecturer Dr John Willsteed was in the line-up for the Rock & Roll Writers Festival in Brisbane next month.
