'My QUT journey started in Year 12 when I completed the START QUT program. After high school, I pursued a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at QUT. I was a Corporate Partners in Excellence Scholar, where I received a $42,000 scholarship and two 15-week internships with Coca Cola and Bank of Queensland, I completed a semester exchange in Copenhagen, and competed in International Case Competitions in New Zealand, Thailand, Canada and Portugal. Now I’m the director of Operations and Sustainability at FRANKIE4, based in Seattle, where I lead global planning, buying, sustainability, and US operations.'

Working with industry
'Guest lectures, real-life case studies and client projects have been a constant in my business studies. In one of my subjects we worked with South Bank Corporation to help them plan for future uncertainties, trends and create recommendations, particularly with the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to Brisbane in 2032. This experience shaped my understanding of industry because it allowed me to apply theory to a real business. Working with them helped me understand the challenges businesses face, the uncertainty involved in business and that you can learn to thrive in that uncertainty.'

A career launchpad
'QUT gave me a strong foundation to become the leader I am today. It taught me to think critically, communicate with impact, and approach challenges with curiosity. From real-world case studies to workplace projects to lecturers with deep industry experience, QUT's practical approach to learning equipped me with the skills that have shaped every role I’ve held, from HR to operations to my current position as CEO of Lorna Jane.'

Real-world learning with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation
As part of the final year Bachelor of Business capstone unit, QUT Business School students had the ultimate opportunity to tackle a real-world problem for the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC). Responsible for delivering two of Australia’s most iconic motorsport events - the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) - the AGPC asked more than 600 final-year business students to think big and devise innovative strategies to attract more international visitors to these sell-out spectacles. The top three performing teams were flown down to Melbourne to pitch their solutions directly to AGPC’s C-Suite and stakeholders from Tourism Victoria.
Career success
'QUT’s real-world perspective laid the foundation for my career, equipping me with the skills and knowledge to thrive. Before I’d even graduated, I secured my first job at Brisbane's top agency. After working in a couple of Brisbane agencies, I realised my dream of moving overseas, first to an agency in San Francisco where I got to work on a global campaign with Xbox, Lucasfilm, EA and Respawn Entertainment for the Jedi: Fallen Order release. From there, I landed my current role as brand partnerships manager at TikTok in New York City where I still work with Xbox, and other partners such as Microsoft and LinkedIn, to help them drive campaign excellence on the platform.'

'Studying business at QUT gave me the confidence to find my voice and the flexibility to shape my own path. From international case competitions and study tours to hands-on industry experience through local and overseas internships, every opportunity broadened my worldview and sharpened the skills I now rely on daily. My degree opened doors and laid the foundation for a career with real impact; now I’m leading agriculture and environmental projects as a consulting director at Nous Group and working on our mixed cattle and cropping farm in the Southern Downs.'

Turn ideas into action
'QUT's real-world learning approach gave me the confidence to turn ideas into action. The hands-on projects and practical case studies taught me how to think critically, adapt quickly and make decisions based on real data and insights. This prepared me for the unpredictable nature of running a business - whether it's launching new products, managing a team, or responding to market changes. It wasn't just about learning theory; it was about applying it in meaningful, results-driven ways.'

'QUT's Bachelor of Business course integrates practical hands-on learning experiences by utilising real-world software, tools, and technologies in teaching. My favourite aspect of the course is the application of theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios while working with systems such as MYOB and Stata. QUT has provided me with hands-on learning experiences essential for my future successful career in accounting and finance.'

Real industry briefs
'I chose QUT for their outstanding alumni community, networking opportunities and industry connections. Often the clients in case studies were real businesses affected by real global issues (such as sustainability problems). Now I simultaneously study two areas I am very passionate about over four years, and leave with a strong skillset for problem solving, number-crunching, and even experimental design.'

Valuable industry connections
'QUT has forged partnerships with local businesses and organisations, giving students like me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and apply our skills in the real world. I've had the chance to work on projects for real clients, which has helped me build my portfolio and given me a taste of what it's like to work in the industry. The co-curricular programs and initiatives offered by QUT have also been invaluable in enhancing my employability and networking skills.'

Tailor your studies
'One aspect of my course that I particularly enjoy is the range of elective options offered. These electives allow students to tailor their studies according to their desired professional environment. I opted for a course on Entertainment Marketing in a Digital World, aligning with my interest in the influence of social media on the marketing industry. I found this elective incredibly valuable and foresee its applicability in my future endeavours.'
