About

In Grand Challenges in Science you will discover concepts from geology, climatology, biology, physics and chemistry. You will discover the many ways in which science is used and misused by practicing scientists and the public.

As part of this unit you will choose one Grand Challenge to work on and present as a final group project.   Your teaching team will work with you on your topic selection which may include areas like Space Exploration, Natural Disasters or Climate Change.

Overview

  • Learn the problems and challenges of modern scientific inquiry using a range of multidisciplinary perspectives and explore solutions-focussed approaches.
  • This unit will use an inquiry-based learning approach where you will engage in collaborative activity with peers, tutors and lecturers.
  • In the lead-up to the program, you will be provided with online resources that will allow you to identify one grand challenge.
  • This unit requires you to watch pre-recorded lectures before starting the intensive block. This will set you up for your major project.

  • Hands-on evaluation of your chosen topic
  • Develop and practice skills in collaboration, information retrieval, critical thinking and academic writing and communication.
