QUT welcomes world’s young universities to Brisbane: QUT is set to host higher education leaders from across the world at the Times Higher Education (THE) 2017 Young Universities Summit this week.
Design meets science, technology and enterprise at STEM Girl Power Camp: QUT's Design Lab and The Cube has teamed up to host an exciting workshop program at QUT Gardens Point campus as part of the second annual STEM Girl Power Camp, coinciding with annual World Science Festival Brisbane (WSFB) .
Keyhole surgery better for cancer hysterectomies: global survival study: A 10-year global study involving QUT has found that survival outcomes after hysterectomies performed by keyhole surgery are just as good – and safer – for women with endometrial cancer as the more invasive total abdominal hysterectomy.
A step forward to making crops drought tolerant: QUT researchers are part of an international consortium of researchers whose work hopes to future-proof crops against the impacts of global climate change.
It’s the journey not the destination: how to survive the drive: Drivers are being urged to think of the journey, not focus on the destination when they get behind the wheel these school holidays, as a way to encourage people to take seriously the effects of driver fatigue.
Closing the gap through Indigenous research: Indigenous researchers, industry partners and stakeholders have gathered at QUT in Brisbane to discuss ways to ‘close the gap’ through increasing research collaborations and building Indigenous research capacity.
Prestigious International Award for QUT's leading biomaterials scientist: The European Society of Biomaterials has awarded its highest honour to QUT’s Professor Dietmar W. Hutmacher, who is Professor and Chair of Regenerative Medicine at the QUT Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation.

- MIT Bootcamp key speaker and roboticist Dr Rodney Brooks was interviewed by ABC Brisbane and his address at QUT was reported by The Courier-Mail.
- Dr Helen Vidgen was in an SBS online feature about the benefits of a Japanese diet, particularly for school children, and another SBS report on the dangers of sugar.
- A 10-year study into surgery options for hysterectomies that involved Professor Monika Janda was reported by ABC, Radio Australia, Health Times, SBS, AAP, Doctor’s Lounge and PM 360.
- AAP and News Corp covered a study of Australian Vietnam veterans and PTSD by a team that included researchers from QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation.
- The Irish Times quoted Professor Selena Bartlett in a feature on sugar.
- BeritaRaya, Republika Online and Investor Daily were among international news outlets reporting on 25 Indonesian fashion designers spending time with QUT’s fashion experts.
- QUT Creative Enterprise Australia’s Mark Gustowski told the Australian Financial Review about the launch of the country’s first creative tech accelerator, which was also in Business Insider and Yahoo.com.
- Drs Matthew Dunbabin and Feras Dayoub’s COTSbot research was highlighted in a Xconomy story about iRobot’s push into environmental robotics.
- Dr Mary Crawford was on ABC Radio Brisbane talking about the response to the floods and the need to look at planning issues.
- ABC reported on Professor Judith McLean’s involvement in a World Science Festival talk on the intersection of art and science.
- ABC Brisbane spoke to Associate Professor Michael Milford about science in entertainment.
- Radio National broadcast a World Science Festival panel discussion about science and religion that featured Professor Peter Bruza.
- Associate Professor Wendy Scaife talked to Radio Adelaide about charities, wrongdoings and expectations.
- Dr Mark King was featured in an Over 60 story about how to choose the right vehicle as an older driver.
- Grain Central and the South Burnett Times published research on drought tolerance involving QUT’s Professor Sagadevan Mundree and Dr Brett Williams.
- Professor Adrian Barnett’s penned a Conversation article explaining the statistical concept of regression to the mean, republished by Daily Bulletin. He also wrote a comment in Nature Index about the cost of medical researchers not publishing their results.
- Professor Brian McNair discussed with Radio National’s The Minefield the moral obligations of producers and consumers of the news media. He also wrote a piece for The Conversation on why politicians and television still need each other which was reprinted by Mumbrella.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer told news.com.au and ABC Radio Sydney that Amazon might struggle in Australia and wrote a piece for The Conversation on the same topic that was republished by SmartCompany. His views on bottled water were in SciDev.Net, Detik and Tempo, he was interviewed by 9 News about David Jones in Queensland, by SmartCompany about a mystery share buyer for Myer, by The Sunday Mail about parents overspending on toys, and was in ThisIsMoney and Daily Mail talking about the potential sale of Kmart.
- The Gympie Times and Sunshine Coast Daily profiled talented musician and QUT Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology student Samantha Montgomery.
- University Herald mentioned Dr Kirtsy Kitto’s work using quantum theory to decode humour.
- QUT Business School research into customer gratitude was quoted by C-Store.
- Associate Professor Mark Lauchs talked about the illegal tobacco trade with ABC South East SA and ABC Goulburn Murray.
- Susan Hetherington joined ABC Capricornia for her weekly Family Affairs segment.
