Choose the right course

If you haven't completed university study before and you want to be a teacher, you can study the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).

If you want to become a teacher and already have an undergraduate degree, you may be able to study the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood).

If you've already completed a Diploma in Children's Services and you're working in the early childhood sector, you can consider part-time and external study options in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood).

If you're already an educator or a registered teacher, you can specialise in early years or early childhood teaching by studying an education specialisation.

Professional placements

Throughout this course, you'll get extensive real-world experience through professional placements in school classrooms, kindergartens and early childhood settings, supervised by practising professional educators.

We also provide additional opportunities for Bachelor of Education students to gain further experience by working with the Out of the Box festival and in programs within the university.

Graduate ready to teach

Our courses prepare you to teach in early childhood settings, kindergartens or the early years of primary school. You'll get extensive experience in these settings, and the vital skills and knowledge to succeed in your career.

Through the Stepping Out conference in the final year of your course, you can seek advice from early childhood and education sector representatives to help you transition to your first real teaching job.

Meet teaching standards

Our courses meet the professional teaching standards for graduate teachers of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and the Queensland College of Teachers.

They also meet the early childhood qualification standards under the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority Framework.

Graduates are eligible to apply for teacher registration, which lets you begin work as a practising teacher.
