What you'll receive

There is one scholarship available to be awarded as:

  • semester allocations of $1,750 (paid after census date) for a maximum of 4 semesters ($7,000 total)

You'll also have access to non-financial benefits, including:

  • professional development workshops for students
  • 1-1 support from a Senior Careers Educator to set goals, implement an action plan, and review achievement milestones for career development and cultural ambassadorship
  • mentoring and/or internship opportunities with an appropriate CALD business leader, appointed by the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Office.

Eligibility

You must:

  • be living in the Brisbane City Council local government region
  • be from a culturally and linguistically diverse (migrant or refugee) background with at least one parent born overseas
  • preferably speak a language other than English
  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • have a personal narrative to share about your cultural inclusion journey in Australia
  • be willing to promote the cultural diversity agenda in university and Brisbane communities, around your studies.

You must also explain how receipt of this scholarship will:

  • support your academic pursuits
  • increase your capacity to engage and contribute to your own and/or other multicultural communities.

You must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • be a full-time student in a Bachelor of Business single or double degree at QUT, and
  • have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 4.5 as at the time of application, and
  • have with at least 4 semesters of full time study (minimum 36CP per semester) remaining on plan.

or

  • be a full-time student in a 1.5 or 2-year Master of Business program at QUT, and
  • have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 4.5 at time of application, and
  • either have 2 semesters remaining (for 1.5 year total course duration), or 3 semesters remaining (for 2 year total course duration). Note: Masters students will be paid a pro-rata semester entitlement for the number of semesters left on plan.

The Lord Mayor's Multicultural Roundtable Scholarship is defined as a non-academic achievement-based scholarship. It is predicated on the achievement of cultural and career advancement benchmarks. QUT Scholarship Concurrency Rules allow students to hold other scholarships while in receipt of a non-academic achievement-based scholarship.

(This offering is only available for current students. A separate offering will be promoted in February 2024 for school-leavers who are commencing their first semester at QUT in Semester 1, 2024.)

What happens next?

We'll send you an email to let you know that we've received your application.

A panel of representatives from QUT, the Lord Mayor's Office and the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Roundtable Committee will assess your application. We'll pay particular attention to how well you've addressed the selection criteria.

We'll contact you to let you know if you've been shortlisted. This may take a few weeks.

If you're shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an interview with the panel. We will phone you to arrange an interview and confirm the details in writing.

After your interview, we'll let you know if your application is successful. If it is, we'll send you a letter with confirmation and further details.

Conditions

Scholarship recipients who participate in the program for the full duration have the opportunity to receive $7,000 spread over four semesters (with all conditions met).  Recipients also benefit from a structured two-year program of coaching and mentoring that is designed to advance cultural inclusion and career objectives.

Recipients who have less than two years left on their study program at the time of award will receive an installment of $1,750 for each semester of scholarship participation, and be expected to participate in a condensed program of cultural and career advancement offerings around their study timetable.
