After a couple of rocky years for the live music industry, it was an incredible feeling to bring back the QUT Music showcase live at the Gardens Theatre. We presented a two-hour main stage concert with all the bells and whistles.
After a couple of rocky years for the live music industry, it was an incredible feeling to bring back the QUT Music showcase live at the Gardens Theatre. We presented a two-hour main stage concert with all the bells and whistles. Our highly acclaimed technical services team, together with Dr Joe Carter and his fabulous film students, created an audio and visual spectacular, bringing to life some of Brisbane’s best emerging talent, who we can also proudly claim as recent graduates of QUT music!
The night featured a huge variety of original music, including the exquisite vocal harmonies of folk trio, Thursday Maybe, the emotionally-charged alt-rock vibes of The Graveyard Club, the post-punk shoegaze sounds of Blue Diner, the soulful, 70s nostalgia of Samichoux, more alternative rock from local favourites Duck Egg Blue and Love Street, original tunes from amazing singer-songwriters Jemima Laag, Sam Stone, Amy Marks, Hope Morrison and debuts from electronic producer RYN, metal band Kurai Verildis and indie pop band Harper Wren. Talented music students from our 1st and 2nd year cohort provided engaging performances in the foyer before and after the main show, and during interval.
QUT is proud of its reputation for nurturing and supporting all kinds of musicians within the BFA Music program, helping students to realise their creative and musical identities and equip them with the music, production, and business skills they need to carve out sustainable careers. Initiatives such as the student-run record label, Vermilion Records, public performances, showcases, networking events, and a curriculum that features the principles of collaboration, creativity, originality, inter-disciplinarity, and industry-relevance allow QUT music students to learn, grow, experiment, and launch themselves into the world.
