RangerBot wins public’s heart and philanthropic funding: The Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s plans for a low-cost ‘robo reef protector’ with QUT roboticists Drs Matthew Dunbabin and Feras Dayoub has won a $750,000 people’s choice vote in the Google Impact Challenge Australia.

QUT student engineers his way to Formula One: QUT engineering student Jaden Partridge has won a coveted 12-month placement with INFINITI Technical Centre and Renault Sport Formula One and is packing his bags and heading for England.

There’s no need for an app for that! Internet of Things connects with Brisbane: QUT has partnered with Meshed and The Things Network to launch Brisbane’s first public access Internet of Things network to bring low-power, long-range, wide-area connectivity to the city using the open standard technology, LoRaWAN.

Home handy but not so stable: steep rise in ladder-related falls: Researchers at QUT have warned about the rising popularity of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) culture after a steep rise in the number of people falling from ladders.

Rise of the screens: YouTube most popular digital content in Australian classrooms: A QUT report suggests Australian schools should be more flexible with the use of YouTube and other social media platforms to embrace new trends in ‘edutainment’, allowing teachers to maximize the value of ‘teachable’ and ‘in the moment’ content.

- Dr Feras Dayoub (pictured) was interviewed by ABC’s News24 and Dr Matthew Dunbabin (pictured) was interviewed by ABC North Queensland Breakfast about their RangerBot project with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation winning the national Google Impact Challenge. The story was also covered Mackay 7 News, Cairns Post, Gold Coast Bulletin and international media including Le Monde in France, Inverse, Dive PlanIt and IFL Science.
- ABC Australia Wide (8.35) and ABC News 24 featured a story about the work of young QUT scientists on board Prof Zoran Ristovski’s RV Investigator mission to the Great Barrier Reef, including Luke Gravigan and Chiemeriwo Osuagwa.
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Commercialisation) Professor Arun Shaarma penned a piece for The Australian on how PhDs are good for business and that incentives should not be restricted to STEM fields.
- The Courier-Mail’s QWeekend profiled QUT graduate and entrepreneur Renee Robbie.
- Associate Professor Mia Woodruff spoke about her crowdfunding project to create 3D-printed ears for kids born without one on Radio National’s The Science Show. The crowdfunding campaign was also covered by The Courier-Mail’s Headstart section and also ran in other News Corp papers.
- Dr Claire Ferguson and Associate Professor Molly Dragiewicz joined a panel of experts on ABC’s World Today program to discuss how the family court system is exposing children to abuse.
- Retail expert Associate Professor Gary Mortimer spoke to News.com.au about phantom brand private label products, after writing a piece for The Conversation. The story was also picked up by The Motley FoolInDaily and Smart Company. He was also interviewed for 9 News about loyalty cards.
- Old Government House made it into Visit Brisbane’s list of spookiest places to visit in Brisbane.
- QUT's AgBot was featured by American engineering news site Hackaday.
- Professor Brian McNair’s address to the 2016 Asian Congress for Media and Communication International Conference was reported in the Sun Star.
- A report by Professor Stuart Cunningham (pictured) on YouTube being used in the classroom appeared online in Gizmodo Australia. The story was also picked up by Education Today.
- Aged Care InSite spoke with Azadeh Rezvani about technologies to reduce social isolation.
- CMS Wire named QUT a winner in the Step Two Intranet and Digital Workplace Awards.
- Associate Professor Kirsten Vallmuur’s study into ladder-related hospitalisations was covered by APN outlets including The Queensland Times.
Campus Review covered the Times Higher Education university rankings and QUT’s improvement from the 251-300 band to the 201-250 band.
- Businesspress24.com featured a story about how QUT mathematicians are using mathematics to save the jaguar.
- Oscar Oviedo-Trespalacios’s research on mobile phone use while driving was in Medindia.
- Professor William Doherty and Dr Tom Rainey’s process engineering research featured in Australian Canegrower.
- Professor Linda Gilmore and Professor Marilyn Campbell’s psychology expertise was used in a Fairfax article about the Dreamworld tragedy.
- ABC 612 online featured a story about a new exhibition at the QUT Creative Industries Precinct on Khadi - India’s national fabric.
- Quest newspapers ran a story featuring Dr Chrisann Palm who discussed the financial surprises that could unexpectedly face retirees.Bookplate of album gifted to Dr Love in 1894
- ABC News 24 reported on the Senate committee investigating the Census mentioning that QUT students had designed a 'better' Census for $500 that could handle four times the traffic.
- QUT Library’s historic photo exhibition at Old Government House, To Sir With Love — The Dr Wilton W.R. Love Album, made Phil Brown’s top five arts and culture events in The Courier-Mail.
 - Noosa News reported on Dr Elke Hacker’s sunscreen patch which alerts wearers to fading sunscreen.
- QUT graduate Alison McGirr talked to Hills Shire Times about her role in an upcoming episode of the hit Canadian-Irish TV drama Vikings, shown in Australia on SBS.
- South Africa’s Times Live quoted Holly Harris in an article on fussy eating and genetics.
- StartupSmart and BioSpectrum Asia wrote about MedTech and Pharma injecting funding to projects including QUT’s biofabrication research.
- Australian Design Review announced that QUT design graduate Aleesha Callahan had joined its team as online editor.
- Advertising lecturer Michael Klaehn joined 612 ABC Evenings for his regular segment on social media.
- Susan Hetherington reviewed American Buffalo in her weekly segment on ABC Brisbane Breakfast and discussed all matters family with ABC Capricornia.
- Adjunct Associate Professor John Mickel was interviewed on the Party Games state politics segment for ABC Brisbane Mornings.
- Dr Rebecca English penned an article for The Conversation on the possibility of toilet training from birth. It also appeared on Life Hacker Australia, Mamamia, Live Science and throughout the Australian Regional Media news network.
- Professor Axel Bruns wrote a piece for The Conversation on the Australian Twitter News Index, which was republished by Australian Business, Daily Bulletin and News Pronto.
