The Chief Executive of Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Dr Robyn Littlewood, has been named the QUT Faculty of Health Outstanding Alumni Award winner for her advocacy role in health promotion.
Dr Robyn Littlewood has been a paediatric clinical dietitian for more than 20 years, working extensively across all levels of paediatric obesity prevention, nutrition and dietetics, from consultation with children and families in her clinic, to leading multi-disciplinary teams on state-wide initiatives.
In 2015, Robyn established ChildD Pty Ltd, a specialist private nutrition practice in Brisbane, where she consults one-on-one and works with organisations to provide nutrition and food consultancy services. In collaboration with the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), she co-designed and developed the DAA ChildD National Paediatric Dietetic Training program which has gained national and international recognition for its relevance and practicality.
Prior to her role at ChildD, she was the Director of Health Services Research at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH). Robyn was also the Director of Dietetics and Food Services for almost 10 years at QCH and the former Royal Children’s Hospital.
Dr John Wakefield PSM, the Director-General of Queensland Health, has a close working relationship with Robyn, and expressed how her “passion, energy and enthusiasm” has had a profound impact on both the public and private health sectors.
“Robyn's actions and commitment to her profession has also been evidenced through continuing to deliver clinical services in a private capacity, on top of her significant public sector responsibilities,” Dr Wakefield said.
“Robyn's private practice work has provided further scope for her to demonstrate in a direct manner her philosophy that change is imminent when an individual is armed with the right knowledge, support and empowerment.”
Continuing professional education for all health professionals has always been a focus for Robyn. She recognised the need for a training course in paediatric dietetics, which led her to conduct the first National Paediatric Dietetics Training Course in Australia, and partnered with the DAA in 2016. This course has been held biannually in various states eight times to over 250 health professionals, who were all evaluated with outstanding results.
She has produced more than 100 publications and journal articles, and has been a featured keynote speaker at numerous national and international industry conferences.
The annual QUT Outstanding Alumni Awards recognise outstanding graduates of the university, and its predecessor institutions, who have displayed exceptional professional, academic or research achievements and contributions to the community.
Each winner and their achievements will be celebrated at the Outstanding Alumni Awards dinner on October 12 at Room Three-Sixty at QUT Gardens Point campus. The QUT Outstanding Alumnus of the Year will also be announced at the event.
