QUT has climbed 14 places to be ranked Australia's top university under 50 years old in the Times Higher Education Top 100 Under 50 rankings, released today.

Now ranked 26 in the world among universities less than 50 years old, the latest result identifies QUT as a rising star within the tertiary education and research sector.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake said the ranking was endorsement of the strategic and ambitious path the university was following which focused on strengthening the quality of its teaching and research, particularly within a number of selected areas.

"QUT is an energetic and ambitious young university, full of good people, and the recognition is buoying," Professor Coaldrake said.

"It is also good to see so many of Australia's younger universities doing well, and this reflects positively on the quality and resilience of Australia's university system.

"But rankings all have their idiosyncracies, so we need to keep our feet on the ground and keep building on that solid foundation."
