QUT has been named the Best University to Work for in Australia in 2012 by the nation's university jobs website UniJobs.com.au.

More than 32,000 staff from Australian universities anonymously rated their employers on 11 issues including employee benefits and management decision making.

QUT took top honours with an overall rating of 9.12.

QUT's highest ratings were for:

  • occupational health and safety (9.43)
  • work hours (9.43)
  • self satisfaction (9.29)
  • disability (9.29).

QUT HR Director Graham Mac Aulay said staff satisfaction was a priority for the university.

"I firmly believe that a happy and motivated workforce has positive flow-on effects for our students," Mr Mac Aulay.

"QUT surveys its staff every three years to measure how satisfied they are about working for our university.

"The UniJobs result reinforces the feedback we receive through our surveys.

"For the past decade QUT has also been named an Employer of Choice for women by Australia's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency."

The Best University to Work for in Australia Award was established in 2010 to give university staff a voice and to better understand staff happiness in the higher education sector.

UniJobs.com.au said feedback generated through the survey was critical in helping maintain the high level of excellence and dedication to staff that Australian universities were known for.
