What is the purpose of this research?

The purpose is to test a screen overlay which fits on top of mobile phones and eliminates the need for reading spectacles. We want to know how well people see with it and their impressions of how well it works.

Are you looking for people like me?

We are seeking people who:

  • are aged 50-65 years
  • have good distance vision without spectacles but have trouble with close work unless they use their spectacles.

What will you ask me to do?

Your participation will involve a check of spectacle prescription and visual acuity, and some other tests of aberrations, focusing ability and light scatter in the eye. We will ask you to read letters on a mobile phone with the overlay to determine your visual acuity at near. This will be compared with other conditions.

After this testing, we will ask you for your impression on ease and comfort of reading with the overlay. The testing should take no longer than 60 minutes.

Are there any risks for me in taking part?

There are no risks beyond normal day-to-day living associated with your participation in this research.

Are there any benefits for me in taking part?

If the device is successful in overcoming the inconvenience of having to use spectacles for reading mobile phones, this will be of great benefit to you and many others.

Will I be compensated for my time?

The research team will reimburse you for out-of-pocket expenses in the form of a $20 gift card.

I am interested - what should I do next?
