What is the purpose of this research?

The purpose of this project is to examine the effectiveness of road safety advertising campaigns which have been developed as part of the Re:act Behaviour Change program (www.reactforchange.com). In this study, the campaigns to be assessed relate to the behaviour of driving tired or driver fatigue and were developed by university undergraduates in 2021. The survey will seek to understand your knowledge, attitudes and behaviors in relation to driving fatigued, and ultimately, inform the design of future road safety campaigns.

Are you looking for people like me?

You are invited to participate in this research project because you are:

  • a permanent resident in Australia
  • hold a valid Australian driver’s license
  • are aged 17 or over, and
  • have not previously participated in a focus group or interview pertaining to the current study.

What will you ask me to do?

Participation will involve completing a questionnaire with Likert scale answers (e.g. strongly agree – strongly disagree) that will take approximately 15 minutes of your time.

Are there any risks for me in taking part?

There are some risks associated with your participation in this research project. Some individuals may have experienced, or know someone who has experienced, a negative occurrence (e.g. a road trauma) and, as such may find a study about road safety to be a sensitive issue. If this may be you, we ask that you consider whether or not you are comfortable participating in this study.

Are there any benefits for me in taking part?

It is expected that this research project will not benefit you directly. The outcomes of the research, however, may inform the development of effective road safety campaigns to raise awareness and educate drivers, and in effect, the research may assist in reducing the likelihood of driving related injuries and fatalities among Australian drivers.

Will I be compensated for my time?

To recognize your contribution should you choose to participate the research team is offering you the chance to win 1 of 5 $50 GiftPay e-vouchers. If you wish to participate in this prize draw please see the attached terms and conditions.
