QUT journalism students based in the buzzing G20 media centre among 3000 of the world's top journalists are getting a real-world taste of covering a global event.

The students will file stories nightly on Bris31 and various websites from tonight (Thursday) and over the next three days.

Five students have media accreditation and will report from inside the media centre and three students will be roving reporters finding out the 'word on the street', QUT journalism lecturer Associate Professor Leo Bowman said.

"This is a unique opportunity for our students to experience covering a major world event with all its ramifications and to mix with journalists and dignitaries from across the globe," Professor Bowman said.

"We will be reporting using our own camera crews and also accessing live feed from the host broadcaster, SBS, which gives us full coverage of all the major press conferences and events as they take place."

Professor Bowman said the students were feeling the excitement as the delegates and journalists had begun to arrive on Thursday.

"The media centre will be extremely busy from Friday and our journalists will be in the thick of it, gaining invaluable experience for their future careers."

Follow the students on twitter on @qutnews. Their 15-minute bulletins will screen on Bris31 at 7pm tonight, tomorrow, (Friday, 14 November) Saturday and at 6pm on Sunday. On Friday 21 November a 30-minute G20 wrap by the students will run at 7pm.
