In the lead up to Brisbane hosting the G20 leaders' summit, top business movers and shakers are gathering at QUT this week to boost Australia's business innovation capabilities.

The US Ambassador to Australia, John Berry, has convened the Ambassador's Innovation Roundtable to strengthen investment in science, technology and research.

TIME: 0815 for 0900 start - 1230 finish (approx.)

WHERE: QUT Gardens Point, Y-block Room ThreeSixty
2 George St, Brisbane

DATE: Thursday October 16, 2014

QUT's acting Vice-Chancellor Carol Dickenson will co-host the morning event with US Consul General Hugo Llorens.

The roundtable will begin with keynote remarks from US Ambassador John Berry and Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey.

Discussions will focus on private-sector innovation success stories, the challenges to promoting innovation across international borders and future opportunities for collaboration involving entrepreneurs, start-ups and advanced technology.

There will be about 200 delegates attending the roundtable including representatives for Australian Pacific LNG, General Electric, Lockheed Martin, Life Sciences Australia and the Australian Advanced Manufacturing Council.

Professor Peter Corke, director of QUT's Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Robotic Vision, will join Harvard University Professor of Investment Banking Josh Lerner on a panel to discuss collaborations on future innovation projects.

Ambassador Berry says collaboration is critical to the success of the US and Australian economies.

"Investment in science, technology and research is one of the most important guarantees we can make for our future and is a fundamental area we should look to increase our cooperation," he says.

This is the second such event to be held after the first took place at Questacon in Canberra in July.
