22nd September 2014

QUT's double degree Fine Arts (Fashion) and Bachelor of Business students will conduct a sewathon on Tuesday 23 September with the aim of producing 150 undies for the Brisbane Youth Service (BYS).

'Sewing Support' is part of this year's The Fleet Store, an annual boutique created and managed by QUT students. the fleet Store has been set up in Old Government House at QUT's Gardens Point campus and the students will establish a production run along the historic building's verandah to cut, sew and package the undies.

BYS will distribute the undies to local homeless and disadvantaged young women.

The event aims to raise awareness of local social issues and the power of social enterprise to a particular target market.

Since its inception in 2010, The Fleet Store has become renowned for providing a platform for emerging designers to present their work to the public for the first time. And it has allowed the Brisbane public access to pick up a one-off product while supporting local emerging fashion designers and creatives.
