Professor Lyn Griffiths has been appointed Executive Director of QUT's Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation.

Professor Griffiths is a molecular geneticist whose expertise is in the field of human gene mapping and focuses on identifying the genes involved in common complex disorders, including migraine, cardiovascular disease and several types of cancer.

Before assuming this role Professor Griffiths was Head of the School of Medical Science then Dean Research and Director of the Griffith Health Institute and Molecular Basis of Disease program at Griffith University.

Recognition of her work took Professor Griffiths to the Queensland finals for Australian of the Year in 2005, a nomination for the Queenslander of the Year award in 2006 and a Centenary Medal for Distinguished Service to Education and Medical Research.

She earned her PhD from the University of Sydney in 1990 before moving to Griffith University where she established the Genomics Research Centre on the Gold Coast.

Professor Griffiths has published more than 240 research papers, supervised more than 30 postgraduate, and 38 honours students and received significant competitive grant and industry funding.
