O Week is a great institution at any university - an introduction to uni life that can set you up to succeed and have fun for the whole year.

QUT's Caboolture campus is cooking up a huge welcome for its newest cohort of over 300 students. The campus O week runs from Monday February 20 until Friday February 24.

The new intake of students includes the Caboolture campus' first group of early childhood education students, who will join the existing courses in nursing, primary education, business and creative industries.

"Starting university might feel daunting at first, but O Week is the perfect way for our new students to ease their way into their tertiary studies," Caboolture's Head of Campus Robert Craig said.

The week is split up into faculty specific orientation days:

  • Monday February 20 - Nursing. (Registration at 8:45am).
  • Tuesday February 21 - Business and Creative Industries (Registration at 9:15am).
  • Wednesday February 22 - Education - Primary and Early Childhood. (Registration 8:45am).
  • Friday February 24 - All students are encouraged to attend the 'Start Smart program'. (Registration 8:30am).

To sign up for the day's sessions, students must register in the J Block foyer in the morning. On Friday, registration will take place at the Welcome Tent.

Each day will give the students the chance to meet with faculty staff and students, learn about library resources, and enjoy a free lunch.

On Friday, students can attend a range of workshops where peer leaders will pass on invaluable tips about studying and uni life in general.

"One of the main advantages of attending O week is to meet with other new students. To start building your network early on can give you a huge advantage for the remainder of the year," Mr Craig said.

"Students attending QUT's Caboolture campus find that it has a terrific community atmosphere. With smaller class sizes, it makes it much easier to settle in and get to know your peers.

"The smaller classes also provide better opportunities for students to engage with their lecturers and tutors."
