QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake named a Queensland Great: QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake AO has been named a Queensland Great after receiving the prestigious accolade from Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Equity advocate awarded in Queen’s Birthday Honours: A leader in driving student and staff equity and social justice in the education sector, QUT’s Mary Kelly has been honoured with a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
QUT continues to rise in international rankings: QUT’s rise in international rankings continues with the release of the QS World University Rankings 2018.
Livestock wastes to fuel Australian bioproducts industry: QUT will lead research on a $14 million national project which aims to catapult Australia’s growing bioproducts industry while advancing the war on waste.
QUT City School to launch in 2020: QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake has welcomed a new partnership with the State Government that will see a new high school, QUT City School, open its doors to students in 2020.
Bridging the gap to take medicines to market: The Bridge Program has officially been launched by QUT and Medical Technologies and Pharmaceutical Growth Centre (MTPConnect), together with a consortium of 14 partners including global pharmaceutical companies, venture capitalists, universities and industry associations.

- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer (pictured) spoke to the New Daily about “the Aldi effect”, to Channel 9 about Layaway, to Sydney’s Sun-Herald for a national feature about saving money on groceries, to ABC Brisbane Radio Breakfast about grocery prices, and to Smart Company about how it was time to kill off the Target brand (a story reprinted by MSN).
- The Australian, The Courier Mail, Campus Review and Sky News reported on the latest QS World University Rankings which placed QUT at 247, 29 places up from 2016.
- The Courier-Mail, news.com.au, SBS and The New Daily reported acting alumnus Deborah Mailman had received an Order of Australia medal.
- Dr Ian Renshaw was interviewed by Brisbane Times for a national story on how he’s helped modify junior cricket for this summer.
- ArtsHub featured a story on Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham and his new Australian Research Council grant to analyse Census data to find Australia’s creative hotspots.
- The Saturday Paper ran a piece on Australia’s tough copyright laws penned by Professor Patricia Aufderheide of the American University in Washington, who is a 2017 Fulbright Senior Fellow at QUT.
- Professor Sandra Hayes’ research on the benefits of exercise to cutting risk of cancer was on Sky News, Daily Mail, India’s Ahmedabad Mirror, and UK in publications including Mail On Sunday and Birmingham Mail.
- Associate Professor Wendy Scaife was interviewed on ABC Radio Brisbane Afternoons for Philanthropy Week.
- The Courier-Mail’s Careers section reported an increase in engineering graduate recruitment and quoted QUT alumnus Michael Flynn who was part of the 2016 AECOM graduate intake.
- The Sunday Mail mentioned the credentials of QUT’s Centre for Tropical Crops and Biocommodities in a story on unauthorised genetically modified petunias arriving in Australia.
- The Queensland Times ran a feature on journalism alumnus Tracey Spicer (pictured) and her new autobiography, which also appeared online on some regional News Corp sites. The Daily Telegraph also interviewed her.
- Masters in Creative Advertising students and Cannes Future Lions finalists Chloe Reynaud, Nicolai Henriksen, Enrique Caballero and Shashin Weeratunga were on ABC Online for their DreamFlight idea to help fearful flyers.
- Biospace.com in the USA reported on the launch of the MTPConnect and QUT Bridge education program.
- Australian Anthill featured QUT Creative Enterprise Australia announcing the startup companies accepted into the tech accelerator program.
- The Courier Mail and other News Corp sites ran the QWeekend story on QUT forensic anthropologist Donna MacGregor.
- Ian Faulks discussed dash cam footage, its popularity on YouTube and Facebook and how it is used as evidence with ABC Radio Adelaide.
- Dr Bill Lott joined ABC Radio Overnights for science talkback.
- Techly republished a Conversation article on cyber security that involved Leonie Simpson.
- Adjunct Professor Catherin Bull featured in Architecture AU on the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane casino resort plans.
- Alice Payne and Susannah Kate Devitt were in Otago Daily Times talking sustainable fashion choices.
- Brisbane News mentioned the interactive features designed by Dr Deb Polson’s team for GOMA’s Marvel exhibition.
- The Urban List ran a story about QUT’s Essentially Dance Showcase for students at QUT Gardens Theatre.
- In Conversation articles, Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz wrote about five ways older Australians can embrace technology, Professor Axel Bruns wrote about Schapelle Corby failing to draw a Twitter audience, Associate Professor Michael Milford (pictured) gave a scientist’s review of The Mummy, and Melitta Hogarth’s opinon piece criticised national Indigenous education policies (and was reprinted by NITV).
