Associate Professor Sally Kift of QUT's Faculty of Law, has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to higher education at the 2003 Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).

Professor Kift, Assistant Dean (Teaching and Learning), was one of eight Teaching Award winners, who each received a $40,000 federal government grant.

Professor Kift took the top honour in the Economics, Business, Law and Related Studies category.

A statement released by the Federal Minister for Education, Dr Brendon Nelson, said Professor Kift was one of "Australia's brightest and most effective legal academics working in legal education scholarship and curriculum development".

"Associate Professor Kift rejects traditional approaches to legal education in an effort to reinvigorate the discipline. She strives to provide students with a more relevant and credible education experience."

The award recognised the significant contributions Professor Kift has made to the development of teaching and learning initiatives and cultural change at QUT.

Her contributions include the development of the first year curriculum, suport for casual teaching staff, online teaching policy development, the improvement of first year student experience and the development of graduate capabilities.

The AAUT recognised her continual efforts to achieve life-changing outcomes for students plus her own excellent scholarship and legal research.
