#QUTGivingDay to unlock extra $500,000: QUT’s inaugural Giving Day on May 22 enables anyone to support a range of vital projects and students in financial hardship, with alumnus and CEO of Yum! Brands Greg Creed pledging $500,000 if the goal of 500 donors is reached. 

 

QUT breakthrough holds promise of longer, healthier life:  QUT researchers have developed a new drug that has the potential to dramatically slow the ageing process and delay, or even prevent, major diseases in humans, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, Type 2 Diabetes and arthritis.

#metoo sparks #watchit – QUT gives voice to school girls to end cyberbullying: A social movement using the hashtag #watchit and aiming to end cyberbullying by 2025 was the winning idea to emerge from the QUT Myriad High innovation workshop.

QUT nurtures high school ‘tech entrepreneurs’ to end cyberbullying: The next generation of female tech leaders were tasked with putting an end to cyberbullying during a day-long innovation workshop at QUT, on the eve of Brisbane’s premier innovation festival Myriad.

Less can be more at the end of life: The Australian-first collaboration led by QUT which seeks to reduce provision of non-beneficial end-of-life treatment has been awarded a NHMRC Partnership Grant.

Drivers on the phone more cautious hands-free: Drivers use “self-regulation” techniques like slowing down when using a mobile phone hands-free, but speed up when holding and looking down at the phone while driving,  a new QUT CARRS-Q study of Brisbane drivers found.

Robots get a grip on Brisbane: Some of the world’s biggest names in robotics converge on Brisbane for the world’s biggest robotics conference on May 21-25.

ABC Radio Brisbane Breakfast profiled QUT’s Myriad High workshop, speaking with alumnus and Girl Geek Academy founder Sarah Moran, and later in the week interviewed  QUT students about the university’s pioneering eSports program.



Dr Elke Hacker was interviewed about sun safety research on 9 Afternoon News, while interest continued on the Endangered listing of the antechinus species discovered by Dr Andrew Baker and his team, with international coverage through Live Science USA and Agence France Presse.
