The QUT MBA-Primer is an event designed to give those of you thinking about committing to an MBA an insight into the unique characteristics of the QUT E/MBA that have made it one of the leading E/MBA programs in the country.
Over the course of two 1hr sessions you will be exposed to the way in which our industry experienced academics lead their workshops, gain an understanding of the material they cover and the way in which the program works to build your leadership and decision-making skills in contemporary business environments.
Designed to be short, sharp introduction to the QUT MBA you will experience the collaborative learning approach that occurs within our newly renovated and expanded GSB Executive Education Centre - an exclusive space on campus reserved for our MBA and executive education clients. There will also be ample opportunity to ask questions about the program and build a greater understanding about whether the QUT MBA program is the right fit for you, your career trajectory and your leadership aspirations.

Leadership Practices for Peak Performance - Dr Brett Heyward
With every increasing levels of complexity in today’s world, old leadership models are unable to cope. Organisations that are sticking to the tried and true are disappearing at an alarming rate. Yet, there are organisations that are adapting to this new environment, tapping into new leadership approaches and mindsets in order to grow and prosper. So what does the research say about these new adaptive organisations, and what does this mean for you, as a leader is this brave new world?
Material covered in this session is directly drawn from our core leadership units GSZ497 Personal leadership and change; and GSZ409 Understanding and leading others.
Brett is an Adjunct Professor in the QUT Graduate School of Business (GSB). Brett leads a number of stakeholder engagement and program delivery functions, drawing on both his research activities and extensive leadership experience in the public and private sectors. He has lead organisations that have adopted strong coaching and mentoring approaches to leadership, enabling them to meet organisation challenges stemming from complex and demanding operating environments. As a former Director-General of Natural Resources and Mines, and head of the Public Service Commission in Queensland, Brett understands the issues faced by leaders dealing with structural changes in the Australian economy, as well as the disruptive forces that are challenging leadership approaches and management systems in organisations today. Reflecting on his experience and knowledge, Brett has lectured on a regular basis in the fields of leadership, organisation behaviour, and employee engagement.

Future-proofing your competitive advantage - Dr Tony Peloso
This brief workshop will allow participants to experience some of the thinking, content and activities undertaken in the @QUTMBA GSN405 Strategic Management unit with an emphasis on the practice of environmental scanning and what tools you can use as a leader to influence the future direction of your organisation.
Material covered in this session is directly drawn from the unit GSN405 Strategic Management, the first unit undertaken in your MBA. In a complex society where change is occurring with increasing frequency, strategy has never had greater significance, nor has it been more challenging. The range of local, national and international issues confronting business is both complex and diverse. However, successful enterprises, no matter what sector they operate in have been observed to reflect a capacity for strategic thinking, orientation and action. The QUT Strategic Management unit (GSN405) provides you with a number of tools and frameworks that you can apply directly to your practice as a manager in order to be more strategic in your thinking and more importantly, the way you action strategy in your workplace.
Tony is a Corporate Educator in the QUT Business School. He facilitates seminars relating to corporate visioning, strategy development and strategic implementation.
Tony has particular expertise in strategic visioning, strategic planning, leadership development and decision processes, employee and customer loyalty, corporate reputation and social responsibility, and survey design.
He has extensive experience within the education sphere and in corporate environments in Australia and the United States. He teaches executive MBA and masters-level courses, including new product development, business strategy, marketing strategy, and marketing research. He facilitates board and leadership development processes, advises on business strategy, and designs data collection systems that inform business decision-making.
