Professor Andrew Pettigrew from Oxford University will review the benefits and shortfalls of leadership within the practise of business and management.
Overview
Professor Andrew Pettigrew will explore one of the central issues of business and management. In so doing, he will address three crucial questions:
- whether leaders can affect organisational performance
- when leaders can affect performance
- how leaders can affect performance.
His presentation will be illustrated by examples from the private and public sectors in the UK and beyond.
About the speaker
Professor Andrew Pettigrew is recognised as one of the foremost scholars and practitioners in strategy and change management. He has revolutionised the study of organisational change and development by combining historical, political and social contextual information with statistical and quantitative data. Professor Pettigrew is currently an Emeritus Professor of Strategy and Organisation of the Said Business School at the University of Oxford.
He has held previous academic appointments at Yale University, London Business School, Harvard Business School and the University of Bath, where he was Dean of the School of Management from 2003 to 2008. He has been awarded many distinctions as a scholar in North America and Europe, including being made a Fellow of the British Academy, a Distinguished Scholar of the US Academy of Management and a Fellow of the British Academy of Management, the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. Alongside his research, Professor Pettigrew has been engaged as a consultant to many private and public sector organisations throughout the world. He is the author, co-author or editor of 16 books and over 100 articles and chapters. He was awarded an OBE for services for Higher Education in 2009.
