They're "noice, different, unusual" and everyone wants one - QUT's newest must have fashion item is the t-shirt.
Designed by recent fashion graduate John Prikryl, QUT has released a select range of t-shirts for sale to students, staff and the public.
QUT Associate Professor Suzi Vaughan from the Creative Industries Faculty said it was the Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake's idea to dress up the QUT brand to make it more fashionable.
"Professor Coaldrake wanted to get involved in fashion and it was his initiative to create designs that everyone would want to wear."
Professor Vaughan said the t-shirts which included designs such as 'I (heart) QUT' and 'I (heart) KG' were a huge hit with students during O-Week.
"As part of the O-Week festivities we handed out vouchers for a free t-shirt," she said.
"We had 2000 to give away and they were almost all gone within the first few days."
Professor Vaughan said the giveaway tees were so popular that the university decided to produce a select range of shirts for general sale, as well as for use by staff and students during QUT career and marketing events.
The designs include 'I (heart) QUT', the names of all the faculties and schools making up the QUT logo, and the slogan 'a university for the real world' with an '06 tag.
John Prikryl said the brief he was given when designing the shirts was "to create something exciting, a little bit funky and that said QUT".
"I think all these designs are something that you might want to wear which is why I think they are so popular," John said.
He said the other aspect of the t-shirts was the colours.
John said there were almost 25 different colour combinations from hot fuchsia to army green and orange, and then the more safe colours of navy and white.
The t-shirts are available at the QUT bookshop at Gardens Point, Kelvin Grove and Carseldine. Cost is between $15.95 and $20.95. A range of styles, colours and sizes are available.
