6th February 2014

QUT Caboolture campus will welcome new students with seven days of fun and information during O Week, February 16 to 21.

"This year we will welcome more than 400 new students to the campus," QUT Caboolture Head of Campus Robert Craig said.

"About 10,000 students will begin study across the three QUT campuses here at Caboolture, and at Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point.

"O Week is the perfect opportunity to get to know what uni life is going to be like. And it's also a great time to meet new friends and form those connections that will make achieving your study goals easier."

The week officially opens on Monday, February 17, with a ceremony at the Tallon St campus from 9.15am that includes a welcome to country and an academic procession.

Workshops and activities will follow until 1pm, before the "Welcome to Uni Party" begins.

This hyper-social event includes a pop-up beer garden, market stalls, a mechanical bull competition, free food and live music from hip hop artist Tenda and Australia's Got Talent Grand Finalist, Mark Lowndes. (Best time for media photos is between 1 and 2.30pm.)

There's also a free shuttle bus to and from the train station.

Included in the party is the launch of QUT's 2014 t-shirt, this year designed by 2012 QUT fashion graduate success-story Hayley Elsaesser. Her graduating collection, Candy Coated Voodoo, was selected for show at the Sportsgirl National Graduate Showcase at L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week last year. Each year, a different fashion graduate is invited to design a t-shirt which every new first-year student at QUT receives.
