The achievements of Faculty of Health students were on display at this week’s annual Student Awards Ceremonies.
Across two evenings, 112 students were recognised for high academic achievement, clinical excellence, and contributions to the QUT community in the 2023 academic year.
Recipients from the Schools of Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Nursing, Psychology and Counselling, and Public Health and Social Work were presented with 128 awards, prizes, bursaries, grants and scholarships totalling more than $150,000 in value.
Distinguished Professor Patsy Yates, Executive Dean, Faculty of Health said, “the Student Awards Ceremonies are important annual events proudly organised by the Faculty of Health to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students, made possible thanks to the very generous support of our corporate sponsors and philanthropic donors”.
This year, several new awards were introduced, including the inaugural I-MED Radiology Network Medical Imaging Bursary which will support Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) student Shannon Yap to undertake a clinical placement in Hervey Bay later this year. I-MED Radiology Network’s support will provide $5,000 to assist with the out-of-pocket expenses associated with undertaking a 7-week regional placement, as well as admission to an I-MED Radiology Network annual conference.
The Dace Dambergs Social Work Scholarship was also awarded for the first time this year. Ana Garcia Del Barrio was selected by a committee on the basis of her commitment to her studies and is currently completing the Master of Social Work. The $5,000 Scholarship was established by Dace Dambergs, a migrant from war-torn Latvia, who describes her decision to study at QUT as a mature-age student as “life-changing”.
The Faculty of Health acknowledges the generosity of all individuals, families, and organisations that support these student awards, and would like to extend a special acknowledgement to the following organisations who have provided prizes to QUT students for 25 years or more:
- Australasian College of Health Service Management
