Dream career
'The biggest benefit of studying at QUT College is the people that you work with. From tutors to other students, people are really passionate about the subjects that they are involved in.
I chose the business pathway in the Diploma in Esports as marketing and advertising have been an interest of mine since leaving school. The course allows me to explore my interest within the setting of the industry I want to work in, giving me the skills and abilities to move into my dream career with the added benefit of continuing onto a bachelor degree at QUT if I want.'
Industry advantage
'I want to be an esports journalist, so starting with the Diploma in Esports and then receiving full credit for my diploma studies and direct entry into a Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) is perfect for me. It was a no-brainer as both courses directly relate to my future career and give me an advantage over others in the industry.’
Supportive environment
'Studying at QUT College has taught me to be independent, work in a team and has given me a safe environment to grow in. I chose the business pathway as my dream is to work in the business side of the esports industry. I can’t wait to further my knowledge and skills in the Bachelor of Business and go on to pursue my dream career.'

Why choose this course?
Esports is already a billion-dollar worldwide industry, and it's still growing, but most people only see the players. Behind every tournament, team and broadcast is a workforce of professionals in business strategy, event operations, technology and content production.
This diploma lets you explore that world. You'll study how the esports industry operates, from creative conceptualisation and coding through to finance, marketing, talent management and tournament broadcasting. Alongside your esports units, you'll also complete foundational units in either business or information technology, building skills that apply well beyond gaming.
As a blended education model, you gain skills on-campus in a highly supportive environment. You'll have access to a suite of services designed to help you achieve your study goals and advance your career.
Graduates can enter the workforce directly or continue into a QUT bachelor degree in Business, IT, or Games and Interactive Environments with up to 96 credit points of advanced standing. No additional application required.
Explore this course
You'll cover the fundamentals of esports, including the practical and theoretical sides of the industry, the impact of physical and mental health, pro-athlete attitudes and values, esports business strategies and a range of digital technologies. You'll also choose to specialise in either business or information technology, completing foundational units in your chosen discipline from semester one.
Your course is split 50/50: four esports-specific units (48 credit points) and four pathway units (48 credit points) in business or IT. This means you're building real, transferable skills alongside your esports studies from week one.
As a diploma student, you'll learn in a supportive environment that will prepare you for future academic success. You'll be part of a community with opportunities to make friends and network, and benefit from:
- State-of-the-art learning spaces including access to QUT's purpose-built esports arena
- Support from educators who take a real-world focus and have genuine industry experience
- Smaller class sizes with more contact hours than a standard university lecture
- Dedicated academic support including study skills development, peer mentoring and one-on-one consultations
By the end of the year, you'll hold a completed diploma qualification. If you choose to continue, you receive a guaranteed offer into the corresponding QUT bachelor degree. Your diploma units transfer directly as first-year credit, with no additional application required.
