What to expect

If you have a passion for mathematics and a keen interest in data analytics, this course was designed for you. 

During your studies, you will acquire critical thinking abilities, develop your problem-solving skills, and learn how to process, analyse and visualise complex data sets effectively using data analytics tools and techniques.

Mathematics component

To make a difference as a mathematician, you must combine theory and modern practical skills. We focus on equipping you with both at QUT. You’ll learn by doing—through computer labs, practicals and workshops—and develop those skills alongside your peers in collaborative learning classes. We focus on authentic assessment that speaks to what a mathematician does in the real world. We pride ourselves on 100% of maths graduates completing an industry-driven project in our work-integrated learning program.

Data Analytics component

This course will prepare you for a future-focused career in the fast-paced, ever-changing world of data analytics. With a collaborative curriculum across disciplines, you’ll not only learn theories and methods, but you’ll apply that knowledge to predict, forecast, visualise and make decisions in a range of applied areas. You will study specialist units in advanced statistical data analysis, data mining techniques and applications, data manipulation, analytics for information professionals and advanced stochastic modelling.

Early exit

For those who wish to exit the course early, there are two options available. 

Upon completion of the required units, students can exit with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree. Alternatively, students may be able to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics, which provides a recognised qualification in the field of data analytics. 

These early exit options provide flexibility for students who may wish to enter the workforce or pursue further studies at different stages of their academic journey.
