The Honours qualification opens a direct pathway into the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Applied Science courses, and enhances professional career progressions in a variety of areas.
Course Design
The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) is designed to provide a strong and practical foundation for research and professional employment by you acquiring the abilities to:
- understand and apply advanced theories, concepts and techniques in order to recognise, and to seek solutions for, worthwhile scientific problems
- demonstrate, and continue to develop, independence of thought and critical analysis
- contribute effectively to work and research groups
- communicate at a high level in both written and oral forms
Professional Recognition
Australasian graduates may seek membership into one or more of the following organisations:
Association of Clinical Biochemists, AusBiotech Ltd, Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Australian Society for Medical Research, and Australian Society for Microbiology. Eligibility for membership is based on the combination of units undertaken in the Honours degree and the Bachelor course that underpins it.

Additional entry requirements
Applicants should have completed a bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a relevant area and have attained a minimum grade point average of 5 (on a 7-point scale) or its equivalent.
Application should be made at the end of the final year of the Bachelor degree or within 18 months of completing that degree.
Applicants who do not satisfy the normal entry requirements but who have demonstrated outstanding performance in the final year of the degree and/or appropriate work experience or involvement in research may be admitted at the discretion of the Executive Dean.
Course fees
