The Diploma in Health Science (Health Studies) provides a guaranteed pathway into a range of undergraduate health science degrees at QUT.
During your studies, you will attend university-style lectures, participate in engaging tutorials, and undertake practical activities in a laboratory environment. Our educators will teach you about the diversity of practice across the health industry and encourage you to start thinking about your identity as a future health professional. By graduation, you will be well-equipped with the fundamental health professional knowledge and skills required to successfully transition into your university studies.
In this course you will:
- gain experience analysing and interpreting results in laboratory environments as you explore the basic concepts of biochemistry
- learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively in teams to address current public health challenges facing our community
- explore human rights issues and Indigenous health challenges to help you develop a culturally inclusive and ethical approach to health practice
- study the basic structures and functions of the human body, including the cardiovascular, muscular, digestive, nervous, and respiratory systems
- learn about the impact of poor nutrition on health outcomes and the importance of dietary assessment methods
- be introduced to the major sub-fields if psychology and learn how psychological perspectives can help you understand and address real world issues.

To progress into your chosen QUT Bachelor degree you will need to meet the conditions listed in your offer letter, including:
- successful completion of the Diploma of Health Science (Health Studies).

Advanced Standing
Once you have successfully completed this course, you will receive followng advanced standing and commence your chosen degree in:
February and July entry
It will take 2.5 years (one semester reduction) to complete:
- Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology) with 72 credit points of advanced standing.
It will take 3 years (no reduction in semesters) to complete:
- Bachelor of Human Services with 48 credit points of advanced standing.
It will take 4 years (no reduction in semesters) to complete:
- Bachelor of Social Work with 48 credit points of advanced standing.
- If you are going to progress into the Bachelor of Social Work course, you will need to take one of the approved English language tests in order to meet the English language proficiency requirements. If you need to improve your academic English language skills to achieve an IELTS 7.0 (sub-scores 7.0) you will be offered the IELTS Advanced program.

- Bachelor of Nutrition Science with 72 credit points of advanced standing.

Advanced standing
If you have prior studies or work experience, you may be eligible for advanced standing (credit). You can apply for advanced standing once you've been accepted to QUT. If you're in your first semester of study, you must apply for advanced standing within 10 days of receiving your offer.
