Why choose this course?
Screen industries are being transformed by streaming services, global production, digital platforms and changing audience behaviour. Contemporary screen professionals need to understand not only how content is developed, but also how it is financed, managed, distributed, promoted and experienced by audiences.
This course combines an understanding of screen industries with advanced digital communication knowledge. You will explore the economic, cultural and technological forces influencing film, television and digital entertainment while developing capabilities in screen business models, audience research, production management and professional practice.
Your Master of Digital Communication studies will extend this knowledge into social media storytelling, data analytics, artificial intelligence and data visualisation. You will examine how digital platforms and automation are transforming the global media environment and develop advanced research skills for responding to complex communication challenges.
By combining these areas, you will graduate with a broad understanding of screen content, industries and audiences, supported by advanced digital communication and analytical capabilities.
Real-world learning
The course connects theory with activities reflecting contemporary screen and digital communication practice.
During your screen industries studies, you will develop proposals, pitch ideas and analyse industry case studies. Assessment will build your ability to evaluate screen business models, cultural dynamics and emerging industry challenges. You will also develop practical knowledge of production planning and management, including budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment and compliance.
Work-integrated learning opportunities may include internships with production companies, media agencies and cultural organisations. Study tours and industry intensives may also provide exposure to international screen markets and emerging global trends.
In the Master of Digital Communication component, authentic learning experiences will help you address challenging communication scenarios and apply advanced knowledge to real-world contexts. Opportunities may include internships, industry projects, real-world projects or study tours, supported by advanced academic or industry-focused research.
