Why choose this course?
Digital platforms are transforming how media is created, distributed and experienced. Social media, streaming services, data and artificial intelligence now influence audience behaviour, business models, cultural participation and the ways organisations communicate.
This course combines broad knowledge of media and communication industries with advanced study of digital communication. You will examine the technological, cultural and economic forces shaping contemporary media while developing practical capabilities in digital analysis, research and communication strategy.
In the Bachelor of Communication component, you will explore media systems, digital platforms, audience analytics and the impact of digital transformation. You will consider how media shapes identity, relationships and society, including issues such as privacy, surveillance, representation, ethics and algorithmic influence.
Your Master of Digital Communication studies will deepen your understanding of the digital creative economy and how platforms, automation and artificial intelligence are changing the global media environment. You will develop advanced skills in social media storytelling, data analytics and visualisation, preparing you to analyse complex communication environments and respond to emerging industry challenges.
Real-world learning
Throughout the course, you will apply your knowledge to practical challenges reflecting the changing media and communication industries.
Your undergraduate studies include a major capstone experience in which you research a current media or communication industry issue, develop a focused research question and propose evidence-based solutions. You will communicate your findings through a professional presentation supported by appropriate documentation.
You may also gain experience through internships, work placements, industry projects or international study tours. Previous Bachelor of Communication students have completed placements with organisations including Nine News, Network Ten, Metro Arts, Queensland Writers Centre and Hyperplex Cinemas.
Advanced digital communication learning is organised around authentic communication scenarios. Depending on the available course options, you may undertake internships, real-world projects, industry projects or study tours. You will also be encouraged to establish a professional digital presence and complete advanced research with an academic or industry focus.
