Details
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed for people who are interested in a professional career in English language teaching and aspiring leaders in this field. TESOL is ideal for those with existing teacher qualifications and some experience in the English as a Second language field and who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of current practice in this field. The TESOL course at QUT will provide you with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to teach English to speakers of other languages. The discipline units will extend your knowledge of second language acquisition and principles of second language methodology, and explore possible pedagogical implications such as application of technology to second language learning.
Career outcomes
Graduates will be prepared for employment in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages.
Units
In the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) study area you are required to complete two (2) TESOL core units:
- CLN608 Second Language Acquisition; and
- CLN612 Principles of second language methodology
plus two (2) TESOL/TEFL option units (a total of 48 credit points).

Entry requirements
An appropriate Bachelor degree or equivalent (three (3) or four (4) year full-time duration) at a standard acceptable to the Executive Dean PLUS at least one year of professional teaching experience.
Applicants are asked to supply an original copy of a letter from their employer outlining details of their employment history.
Students without at least one year of professional teaching experience can apply for the TEFL study area.
Course fees
Your actual fees may vary depending on which units you choose. All fees are based on current fixed fee prices. We review fees annually.
2013: CSP $3,000 (indicative) per Semester (48 credit points) (subject to annual review)
