If you don't meet the English language requirements, there are a number of options available to you. Depending on your English language proficiency, you might be able to combine your English study with some coursework in your preferred field, or you can study an intensive English language program prior to commencing your study abroad program.
Applying for study abroad with English
If you're planning to study English at QUT before commencing your study abroad semester, you can select an option to study an English program in your study abroad application in the QUT application portal. We will package the appropriate English program with your study abroad offer, based on the English language test scores submitted with your application.
Costs
You may be eligible for a reduction of 25% of the full course tuition fee of your English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program if you are from Colombia and Latin America, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Thailand or Vietnam. Students from these countries may be eligible for QUT College English Language Concession.

You can study a range of English programs depending on your English language test scores.
General English
English required: less than IELTS 5.0 (RW 5.0) or TOEFL 49 (R 10, W 15)
Develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and increase your fluency and accuracy. You will take a class placement test on the first day. Different levels are available commencing at elementary.
If your overall score is less than 5.0, the QUT Global team will assess General English applications case by case. Contact stae@qut.edu.au and provide your IELTS or TOEFL result for further assessment.

You will improve your English language and gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed.
EAP 1 Extended + Study Abroad Semester (with diploma units)

EAP 1 Extended is a 15-week program that will help prepare you for EAP 2 or QUT College's foundation or diploma programs. Improve your language proficiency while developing skills for academic study in an Australian university context.

EAP 1 Standard is an intensive 10-week program that will help prepare you for EAP 2 or QUT College's foundation or diploma programs. Improve your language proficiency while developing skills for academic study in an Australian university context.

You can also combine your Study Abroad experience with diploma-level units or communication units instead of an English program.
