What is the purpose of this research?

The purpose of this research is to understand young people’s (aged 18-24 years) willingness and intention to purchase clothing. This will be explored through asking about a range of factors including attitudes, image perceptions, and willingness to purchase clothing, including second-hand garments.

Are you looking for people like me?

The research team is inviting people who do and don’t buy second-hand clothing, and are:

  • aged 18-24
  • currently residing in Australia
  • following at least one social media influencer.

What will you ask me to do?

Your participation will involve completing a 81-item questionnaire with Likert scale answers (strongly agree to strongly disagree) that will take about 20 minutes of your time.

Are there any risks for me in taking part?

The research team believes there are minimal risks beyond normal day-to-day living associated with your participation in this research.

It should be noted that if you do agree to participate, you can withdraw from participation in the research project without comment or penalty.

Are there any benefits for me in taking part?

It is expected that this research project will not benefit you directly.  However, it may result in a wider understanding of clothing purchasing decisions. You may also find some benefit in reflecting on your own purchasing decisions by participating in this research.

Will I be compensated for my time?

No, but to recognise your contribution should you choose to participate, the research team will make a monetary donation to a charity based on your votes. Furthermore, participants studying their first year of behavioural science at QUT have the choice to either vote for one of the charities or receive 0.5% credit (via the SONA option) towards specific units by completing the survey.

I am interested - what should I do next?
