If you’re an international student and you’re studying the Australian Year 12 curriculum, either in Australia or overseas, you’ll need to follow these steps to apply for your QUT course.
How to apply
Look for a course you want to study. You can apply for up to six courses at once on your QTAC application.
Submit your application through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
Applying with an agent
If you are applying through a QUT representative (agent), you must also complete and submit an agent appointment form (DOCX file, 43.3 KB) and attach your QTAC Confirmation of Lodgement.
When do I need to apply?
If you have completed or are due to complete Year 12 at an Australian high school this year and are applying to start at QUT in Semester 1 next year, you should apply through QTAC.
Please check the QTAC website for key application dates.
If you miss the QTAC deadline for applications, or if you are an Australian high school graduate from a previous year, you should apply directly to QUT by completing an application for admission as an international student form (F Form) (PDF file, 310.8 KB).
We will email a conditional offer for your highest nominated QUT course directly to you or your agent from as early as August. Offers will be conditional on course academic and English language requirements, as well as any additional requirements your course might have.
Hold on to your offer letter until you receive your final Year 12 results, as you will require the letter to accept your QUT offer.
If you want an offer for a different course to the one your received, email email@example.com rather than changing your preference in QTAC.
When your final Year 12 results are released, you can check that you have met all the requirements for your course.
Academic entry is based on:
- your ATAR (OP), selection rank, International Baccalaureate (IB) score or interstate results
- a portfolio, interview or audition (if your course requires one).
Once you have received your Year 12 results, check the acceptance threshold for your course and check that you meet the requirements:
You can use either the 2020 thresholds or the 2021 thresholds.
If you completed a VET program during high school (e.g., Certificate IV or Diploma), email your results to firstname.lastname@example.org
What happens if I don’t meet the academic entry requirements?
If you do not meet the selection rank threshold for your chosen course, you can:
- apply for a pathway program through QUT College to help you transition into your chosen course
- choose another degree that you do meet the entry requirements for and complete one year of study. At the end of the first year (after completing 8 subjects with grades of at least pass) your selection rank will be equal to 93.00, improving your chances in meeting the entry requirements of your intended course.
If you are unsure or require further advice, email email@example.com
English language requirements
You must meet the minimum English language entry requirements for your course. Check your course details to see what English language standard you need.
What happens if I don't meet the English requirements?
If you don’t meet the English language requirement, you can:
- take the IELTS test or other approved English language tests to prove your English ability
- apply for an English pathway program through QUT College to help you transition into your chosen course. To request an English pathway offer, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Am I eligible for the Year 12 Subject Scheme?
If you've successfully completed certain subjects at school, or university-level units, we'll make an adjustment to your selection rank (or ATAR equivalent).
Find out more about adjustment schemes to see what you're eligible for.
I didn't receive an ATAR (OP) score - am I eligible for QUT courses?
If you did not receive an ATAR (OP) score or selection rank, you may still be eligible for one of our admission pathways. Email email@example.com for more information.
How can I change to a different course or request a pathway/packaged offer?
To change courses or request a pathway offer, email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know your request. We will reassess your application.

What if I’m doing Applied subjects, VET study or university subjects?
Applied subjects, VET study or university-level subjects (such as START QUT) will not be considered as part of your school results for the QUT Year 12 Early Offer Scheme.
Are Year 12 students from interstate eligible to apply?
The QUT Year 12 Early Offer Scheme is only available to Year 12 students studying in Queensland.
Will adjustments apply?
As the QUT Year 12 Early Offer Scheme will use your school results and not your ATAR or selection rank, adjustments will not apply. Should you not be eligible for an early offer, adjustments will apply to your ATAR or selection rank.
Can I still apply for QUT scholarships?
Yes, you can still apply for QUT scholarships. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of your ATAR or IB Diploma score.
