QUT has made more than 12,000 QTAC offers to students across its two campuses this year, with about half of those offers made to Queensland school leavers.
QUT Vice President (Administration) and University Registrar Leanne Harvey said that QUT was pleased to again be the university of choice for more than one quarter of QTAC applicants, and to receive the highest number of applicants’ first preferences.
“We believe our focus in STEM engagement and our state-of-the-art facilities have played a key role in this,” Ms Harvey said.
She said more than 2000, or 18 per cent, of offers made so far were for degree courses within the Science and Engineering Faculty, with the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) popular, accounting for more than 630 of those offers.
“We are seeing high demand for science, maths, information technology, and business degrees at our Gardens Point campus,” she said.
“In response to last year’s increased demand for double degree programs, particularly among school leavers, QUT introduced 38 new double degree programs for 2019, and overall, about a quarter of all offers we’ve made for semester one were for double degree programs.
“In creative industries at our Kelvin Grove campus, about 1800 offers have been made into a newly developed suite of courses, with many students combining their creative passion with a business qualification.”
Ms Harvey said the health sciences were again a popular choice for students, particularly nursing and paramedic science.
“Our education programs are also in demand, and this year our education students will be welcomed into the new Education Precinct at Kelvin Grove, designed specifically for purpose and providing state-of-the art facilities with flexible and creative teaching spaces.
“We are excited about this investment in the student experience and the future of the teaching profession in Queensland.”
Students may enrol immediately and Ms Harvey urged prospective students who have received an offer for a place at QUT to accept their offer as soon as possible through QTAC. QUT will also be offering a range of courses through QTAC for commencement in July.
“Anyone who is considering a new application for semester two is encouraged to contact our QUT student advisors,” she said.
