Biography
Amanda is Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Work and School of Exercise and Nutrition Science at Queensland University of Technology. She has more than 35 years’ experience as a practitioner and academic in nutrition, obesity and chronic disease prevention, Indigenous health and public health policy. Amanda was Chair of the National Health and Medical Research council’s Dietary Guidelines Working Committee. She is currently Chair of Food Standards Australia New Zealand’s Consumer and Public Health Dialogue and a member of the Australian Academy of Sciences Nutrition Committee. Amongst recent projects in Australia, Amanda scoped the new national nutrition policy and finalized the national healthy weight guide website. She is an Investigator for The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre and is expert advisor for several other national health initiatives, including synthesizing and assessing evidence to prioritize obesity policy actions in several jurisdictions. She is developing standardised tools and protocols to benchmark and monitor the price and affordability of healthy food in Australia. Globally, she leads the food price and affordability domain of the International Network for Food and Obesity/Non-communicable Diseases Research, Monitoring and Action Support (INFORMAS).
