Auslan Assist: Sign Language Avatars
Auslan Assist is a multidisciplinary project in the field of sign language technologies. It aims to develop an automated public announcement system that generates real-time messages in Auslan via a digital avatar. The end goal is a two-way translation system that would also allow Auslan users to sign to information screens and receive an automatic response in Auslan. When developing Auslan Assist, we want to ensure we create a technology that meets the real needs of Deaf people and will be …

Minimizing Cost and Carbon emission in Inventory Systems: A Reverse Logistics EPQ Optimization Model
This project focuses on developing an Economic Production Quantity (EPQ) model within a reverse logistics system. It addresses scenarios where the demand for both newly produced and remanufactured items may not be fulfilled immediately and is instead partially or fully backordered. A key objective of the project is to minimise inventory-related costs while also accounting for the environmental impact, particularly greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as CO₂, generated during production and remanufacturing processes. As environmental sustainability becomes more important in …

Developing a theory of relationship recovery in public relations
Current study of relationship recovery is narrowly conceived within a marketing framework. Even though relationship recovery has been well studied in a marketing context, relationship recovery strategies have been limited to apology and marketing strategies such as compensation, reimbursement, and replacement. Although organisation-public relationship (OPR) has been a focal construct in public relations research for decades, relationship recovery has been overlooked. In view of this, this study seeks to expand theories within OPR research by undertaking the following steps. We …

Spatial localisation of tumour using AI
In cancer research, it’s important to understand where different types of cells are located within a tumor. This helps doctors learn how the disease grows and spreads. By studying these patterns, we can improve how cancer is diagnosed and treated and even create more personalized therapies for each patient. In this project, we’ll use autoencoder-based methods to find patterns in cancer tissue samples. The model will be trained on data that shows both the location and behavior of cells. Once trained, …

NURS05 Development of evidence summary care of malignant/fungating wounds
Although a large number of evidence-based guidelines exist for prevention and management of wounds, studies have found a substantial gap exists between the evidence and timely assessment and best practice management of wounds, both in Australia and overseas. This has led to a number of evidence based summaries developed by the Wound Research Advancement Group at QUT. This project seeks to add to the set of resources that can be found at https://research.qut.edu.au/ccm/ to include an evidence-based summary on the …
