Empowering futures: NAB Foundation’s First Nations Scholarship sets new benchmark
Last month the NAB Foundation announced the launch of the First Nations Futures Scholarship Program, making QUT history as the largest single transformative scholarship currently available.
The NAB Foundation First Nations Futures Scholarship supports emerging leaders in business and finance who are passionate about driving positive change within their communities.
This scholarship will empower one First Nations student by providing financial support and opportunities that foster growth, connection, and success during their undergraduate business or finance degree.
It reflects a commitment to nurturing individuals who are deeply connected to their communities and who seek to build thriving futures grounded in respect for culture, language, and place.
Up to $90,000 may be awarded over the duration of the recipient’s studies, with a maximum allocation of $30,000 per year.
QUT’s inaugural Chief Commercialisation and Development Officer, Dr Erin Rayment, shared the impact of securing this life-changing scholarship with the NAB Foundation.
“The launch of the NAB Foundation First Nations Futures Scholarship Program represents a meaningful step toward supporting equity and opportunity for First Nations students,” Dr Rayment said.
“This scholarship offers more than financial assistance—it provides a platform for long-term impact.
“It acknowledges the role education plays in creating positive change. Not just for individuals, but for families, communities, and future generations.
“Through this support, we believe in the power of our First Nations students to lead, to innovate, and to shape the future of business in Australia.
“We’re pleased to work alongside NAB Foundation to bring this vision to life.”

In a press release, NAB Head of First Nations Affairs Sam Webster shared what the scholarship program was about.
“First Nations talent is deeply grounded in self-determination, resilience and vision,” Ms Webster said.
“Each student will receive a bursary and be supported with mentoring, internships, and career development to help them become future leaders in Australian business.
“We know that when First Nations students are supported into higher education, the benefits extend far beyond the individual - it lifts household incomes, creates jobs, and grows wealth.
“These scholarships are a direct investment in that multiplier effect; one student’s success has the power to change outcomes for many.”
