About us

Accounting is more than just number crunching - it's the language of business, turning raw data into insights that guide strategic and operational decisions. At the School of Accountancy, our forward-looking curriculum will help you master technical principles and develop digital fluency. We ensure graduates are not only work-ready but also future-ready to thrive in the digital age.

Our school's innovative research addresses real-world challenges, from sustainability and digital accounting technologies to international taxation, corporate governance, and the not-for-profit sector. It directly influences both policy and practice. Strong partnerships with professional services, corporate leaders, and not-for-profit organisations ensure our teaching is enriched by case studies and research that create meaningful, positive impacts.

Our programs are accredited by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), among other leading global bodies. They are designed to open doors to a diverse range of exciting career opportunities, such as digital transformation consultant, tax accountant, data analyst, FinTech accountant, management accountant, and environmental accountant. You can work in a wide range of industries, including but not limited to professional accounting and business advisory, sport, health, fashion, and tech.

We aim to provide a transformative education experience that empowers you to confidently step into roles that not only make a meaningful difference in the world, but also energise you, challenge your thinking, and inspire you to grow.

Why QUT

QUT Business School is Australia's first business school with triple international accreditation. Less than 1% of all business schools globally have achieved triple accreditation, and we’re proud to be part of this distinguished group.

Our accreditation status is recognised globally as an indicator of excellence. This allows us to provide exclusive access to a global network of top-ranking universities for exchange opportunities and international recognition of our credentials for alumni looking to advance their career overseas.

Accounting for the real world

Research groups

Our research informs policy, guides responsible investment, and equips organisations to meet today’s business and societal challenges:

  • Accounting for Social Change evaluates the role of accounting in ensuring the fair and equitable allocation of financial and non-financial resources while addressing responsibilities for externalities
  • Corporate Governance and Reporting examines governance and reporting practices across public and private companies, the third sector, and government entities. It spans financial and non-financial reporting and delves into the behavioural aspects of corporate governance and board dynamics
  • Philanthropy and Non-profit focuses on non-profit legal cases and non-financial reporting to enhance transparency and accountability in the non-profit sector
  • Financial Regulation and Reform examines the impact of laws and regulations on business operations, financial stability, and economic growth, addressing concerns such as market integrity, consumer protection, and the accountability and reform of tax and insurance systems.

QUT Accountancy Student Association (QUTASA)

QUTASA is a non-profit student run organisation operating with the mission to support students in pursuing their professional endeavours and fostering personal development.

With more than 500 members, QUTASA aims to serve as an intermediary between the student cohort and the accounting industry. They also assist students throughout their degree with their development into accounting professionals through various social, professional development and networking events that benefit both the student body and employers.

QUT Accounting Challenge

The QUT Accounting Challenge is a competition for high school students, who take on the role of an accountant and work in small groups of three to four to tackle a client’s real-world business problem.

Groups must prepare an advice document and presentation for their client (this task can be completed in class or given as additional work). These proposals are submitted to QUT’s School of Accountancy for judging, and teams with the best proposals are selected to present their approach at the QUT Accounting Challenge finals to a panel of judges, including representatives from the QUT School of Accountancy, our industry partner, and accounting professional bodies (CPA and CAANZ). The finals are held in Brisbane at QUT’s Gardens Point campus.
