Advice for postgraduate study
'I would say go for it! As I have learnt through my experience, it is never too late to go back to university and change or diversify your career. Enrolling at QUT and completing a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health in the span of only one year has opened so many doors for me professionally and has resulted in immense personal growth and development.'

Balancing work and study
'I love that the Master of Education (School Guidance and Counselling) has been set up for someone that needs to work full-time and study part-time. The course takes the schedule of a working teacher into consideration and plans around that. For example, lectures happen after school hours rather than the middle of the day, which I've really appreciated to help me balance work and study.'

Career change
'My path to law wasn’t conventional. Initially, I pursued a degree in industrial design and marketing while serving part-time as a reserve combat engineer in the Australian Army. My degree in industrial design led to a career as a product manager in the automotive industry, however, I felt something was missing. I wanted a new challenge that combined creativity and critical thinking, and that’s when I discovered law. In my opinion, law is highly creative - crafting persuasive arguments, simplifying complex ideas, and engaging with people. With credit from my previous studies, I enrolled in QUT’s Bachelor of Laws – Graduate Entry program. The shorter study duration made returning to university an easy decision.'

New opportunities
'Enrolling at QUT was the best decision I could have made for myself and my future. I worked as a refrigeration technician for ten years before hitting a glass ceiling as a sole trader. I had a great client base and was excelling in my business. However, I found myself craving new challenges and greater mental stimulation. That's when I decided to take a leap of faith and go to university. It was a difficult decision, but I am so grateful that I did it. Not only did it reignite my passion for learning, but it also helped me to develop my critical and strategic thinking skills. The decision to go back to university has opened up new opportunities and pathways for me that I never thought possible.'
