Overview
This project contributes to an ongoing research project that aims to transform how organisations improve business processes by integrating data analytics with contextual data. Existing process redesign approaches are often static, retrospective, and reliant on manual analysis. While process mining is commonly used to extract insights from historical data, the insights are rarely used to support continuous, real-time process adaptation. As a result, they fall short of enabling intelligent, self-adaptive process management.
The research project addresses these limitations by proposing a context-aware self-adaptive framework that combines historical and real-time data with machine learning and prescriptive algorithms. The overarching goal is to enable continuous monitoring, automated recommendations, and real-time process adjustments—transforming redesign from a one-time effort into an ongoing, adaptive learning cycle. The VRES project will contribute to this broader research initiative by undertaking one of the targeted research activities outlined below, supporting the development and evaluation of context‑aware, data‑driven process redesign techniques.
Research activities
This project will involve one or more of the following activities, depending on the scope:
Review the literature and analyse the research gaps on process redesign using context data
Develop design objectives for a proactive, continuous process redesign approach that integrates data-driven insights and domain expertise
Develop a context-aware, optimised prescriptive model for process redesign
Evaluate the developed approaches and the open-source prototype through experiments with real-world data sets in collaboration with experts
Skills and experience
Preliminary knowledge of process mining and software development
Programming standalone or web-based applications using e.g., Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, Angular, Python
Time management skills to deliver outcomes within a specific timeframe
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
