Overview

Lignocellulosic biomass, such as sugarcane bagasse, is primarily composed of three biopolymers: cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The combination of these components makes lignocellulosic biomass a natural biocomposite material. This PhD project aims to develop innovative biomass processing strategies to convert lignocellulosic biomass into customized biocomposites for building and automotive applications.

Research activities

In this project, you will design and implement advanced biomass processing techniques and chemical modification strategies to produce functionalized biocomposites from lignocellulosic biomass for use in construction and automotive sectors.

Outcomes

We anticipate that the resulting lignocellulose-derived biocomposites will serve as sustainable alternatives for manufacturing building products and automotive components, contributing to reduced environmental impact and improved material performance.

Skills and experience

A background in chemistry or chemical engineering is essential for this PhD project.

Prior research experience in biomass pretreatment and/or polymer chemistry is highly desirable.
